Bristol International Kite Festival: NOT 2016 Website
on Durdham Downs, Bristol BS9 1FG

Press Release - Update Bristol International Kite Festival - Last summer following our move from the Festival's usual site in Ashton Court we successfully held the event on the Downs in Bristol.

Moving the Kite Festival to a new site involved a huge amount of work and effort, particularly by the organising committee, all of whom give up their time for free to run the event on top of full time jobs and family commitments.

Looking ahead we decided to look at holding the Festival every two years and to take this year (2016) as a breather so that we can plan ahead and secure the necessary sponsorship to make the event a real success in the future.

The Festival organisers would like to thank all the traders, site services, kite flyers and crew for helping us make the move and also the public for continuing to support the event. We hope to see you all again in 2017.

For further information contact Avril Baker, Festival Office on 0117 0977 2002 or kites(at)abc-pr.co.uk

Camping available from Friday afternoon until Sunday, NO facilities provided.
Bring your own food and drink & barbecue. BBQ provided from 6 pm Saturday evening.
There may be a marquee in case, and a fire pit to help keep you warm. And FIREWORKS!

Gits Attending = Alan & Anne, Andrew & Sandra, Dicky & Janette and Alan Cosgrove

Andrew had a good attempt at getting his large "Skully" aloft, but there was not really enough wind for the lifter,
nor enough ground level wind to inflate the skull, though we did have some luck sorting out lighting effects
to hang inside it for future events - and made a note to bring along the special "leaf blower" to inflate "Skully"

We had better luck with Andrew's night kite (ex Phil Scarfe) which performed magnificently in the typically iffy
(and ruddy cold) Northerly Cliddesden winds. Alan O has a similar kite, which Dicky is testing when he gets home.
- found it has identical sail, spars, LED layout and display pattern as Andrew's kite - just needs a 7.4v battery!

There certainly were a LOT of fireworks - the whole of Basingstoke seemed to be at it for most of the evening
When Dicky & Janette left early due to the cold, they stopped by Asda which was still doing a roaring trade
in crates of beer and large boxes of fireworks!

Alan O brought along 2 "multi" fireworks (one of which fell over and caused some excitement)
Roy Martin brought along the biggest "multi" firework we had ever seen - 275 effects on a mini pallet!
(all of which took a deal of time to clear up next morning, may I tell you)

Sincere thanks to Roy Martin for the pretty lights, brazier & BBQ - and to Roy & Jessie for the marquee
which was VERY welcome and helped keep hypothermia at bay!

GOG Xmas Bash + Absent Friends Fly-in: 17-18 December 2016

Saturday night eating & drinking too much at The Jolly Farmer, then minibus back to the Travelodge,
a few "nightcaps", and a very good night's sleep, then FEB at The Toby Carvery on Sunday morning
(since closed down) then "Remember Absent Friends" with Ron's Dancing Diamonds, Kelvin's Butterflies,
and Phil's Flames back in the Jollyup field.

Or in this case, stand around in the still and COLD mist while Keith & Tim prat about!
- and a very welcome cup of coffee & mince pie from Roy & Marilyn - LOVELY!
- but nobody got stuck in the soft stuff & it was great to see Old Gits at the last meet of the year.
Roll on 2017!
